The Development
John Southworth, together with Great Places Housing Group and Cube Homes, worked collaboratively
on this new and exciting scheme with a difference, delivering sixteen homes to Didsbury. A mixture of
old and new, the project consists of 8 apartments set over three storeys in a refurbished building, with
a further 8 set over two storeys in a new build.
The heritage property, a Victorian Villa, underwent a significant (and sympathetic) transformation
inside and out, retaining many of its important features. The existing, dated, extension at the back was
demolished and replaced with a new building, constructed of light gauge steel frame, a durable, sustainable method. The new style respects and complements the existing structure.
Consisting of a mixed tenure of 50/50 affordable and market rent properties, the project was supported by grant funding from Homes England and the GMCA Brownfield Housing Fund.
Located in Didsbury, just over six miles from Manchester, the development provides easy access to the motorway network and public transport. The area also benefits from local schools, shops and entertainment facilities with a range of unique local businesses, including delis, vintage stores and restaurants, to name a few.
Located close by is Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens, a much revered and award-winning historical park, providing many leisurely pursuits and walks. With its tranquil woodland, meadows and gardens, the park, a haven for wildlife and renowned for its beauty and rare species of plants, has appeared on several popular TV shows. For those wanting to sit back and unwind, refreshments are catered for at the exceptionally quirky Fletcher Moss Food Truck!
