The Development

John Southworth and One Manchester worked collaboratively to deliver a total of fifteen, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments on this three-storey development in Gorton, Manchester. Built following a traditional construction method with a single-ply roof, the apartment complex provides independent living and a community hub for residents over 55 years of age.

Benefiting from balconies with open walkways, communal external and internal spaces to enjoy, EV charging points, garden room and a buggy store, Pomona caters for a variety of needs.

Conveniently located within half an hour of Manchester City Centre and the excellent transport links available makes this development the perfect place for access to local shops and amenities – a bus stop is also very conveniently located outside!

Formerly the site of the Pomona Public House, the ground had stood derelict since its closure in 2004. In its current state before the build, the site was repeatedly targeted with attacks of vandalism and arson and as such was a very welcome addition to the community for neighbouring residents, who had expressed their desire for the build to be brought forward.

Committed to adding value

John Southworth don’t just build homes; they are committed to building and contributing to communities.

  • 78% of materials purchased locally.
  • 70% of subcontractors appointed locally.
  • 87% of local labour.
  • Transformed a derelict and troubled site.
  • Employed and supported apprentices and work experience students
  • Room in local community centre brought to life with a splash of paint.
  • Adjacent pathway cleared for public use with installation of barriers to prevent motorised vehicles.
