Committed to making positive contributions to both the community and the environment through every development we undertake, being a considerate constructor is integral to upholding exemplary standards in all our projects.

The Considerate Constructor Team have recognised our Victoria Avenue development with Great Places as excellent for the following:

  • Respecting the community
  • Caring for the environment
  • Valuing our workforce

With an overall score of 44 out of 45.

Located in a suburban area not far from the M60 motorway, the previous community centre buildings had already been demolished, with the site now being transformed into a collection of 25 newly built houses.

The site has a long frontage onto a busy main road where its immediate neighbours are a community centre on one side and houses on the other and along the rear boundary. There are more houses on the opposite side of the road and the site is diagonally opposite a church and a primary school.

The site commits to protecting the environment with excellent practices and disciplines in place, including:

  • Chas Elite Accreditation in place.
  • The return of bulk bags to suppliers to reduce single-use plastic.
  • A pre-qualification questionnaire for the supply chain including carbon reduction practices.
  • Design /contractor proposals that include lower embodied carbon materials. They bring and promote their experience of the use of air source heat cylinders and Passivhaus construction.
  • A commitment to support a community garden project nearby, whilst the project itself also includes landscape features in common areas.

Steven Brown, our MD, says:

“We take great pride in the positive feedback received from the Considerate Constructor Assessor for yet another one of our developments, especially in recognition of our active engagement with the local community and our ongoing dedication to being a socially conscious and environmentally friendly organisation.”

We have been a proud family business for over 40 years, and valuing our workforce is a priority. Through a collaborative relationship with Tameside College of Technology, opportunities to grow future talent arise, offering work placements and apprenticeships. Alongside this, providing support and encouraging women in construction is extremely important to us, with feedback from the assessor saying,

“A supportive and inclusive workplace is being provided. There is collaboration with Tameside College to offer placements and apprenticeship opportunities, the Company has a record of encouraging women into construction, and specifically women in trades.”
